Discussion with Tereza Bebarová, a Kenyan Musician & the February Lecture Programme

We welcomed a truly delightful guest to 1. Slovanské gymnázium on Monday, 15 January; the winner of several theatre awards, the Thálie Award, Tereza Bebarová, came to talk with us not only about acting as a craft and the road to fame.

Ms. Bebarová describes herself as a Yes Man; constantly seeking out and embracing life's challenges, was the advice she gave to the students present. Moving forward every day and learning new things, these are values that we at 1. Slovanské gymnázium fully share.

We were delighted to welcome the Kenyan musician Judah Onesimus to our school for a time full of exchange of learning, knowledge and high cultural value.

Our young people received first hand information about Kenya, its languages, current affairs, cultural groups, geography, cultural diversity and the linguistic mix of the African continent. The space for questions was openly used by our students, asking our guest about their cultural impacts in the Czech Republic, their studies in Prague, food in Kenya, sports… in short, a variety of topics that could be clearly addressed by our guest. The evening ended with a small, beautifully performed and heartfelt musical presentation to the sound of a trumpet and then a flute of African origin.

Music, art and culture truly make us more human. There is only one race; the human race.

February in the Aula will belong to the social sciences. Over two consecutive Mondays we will welcome Prof. Petr Drulák with his take on topics in international relations, and Doc. Aleš Prázný, who will reflect on how the Czech nation perceives its own history.

One of the most pivotal figures of the post-1989 developments, Prof. Václav Klaus, will speak on a rescheduled date to be announced soon.
