Handing Over of School-Leaving Certificates

the Ceremonial Handing Over of School-Leaving Certificates took place

As tradition dictates, it was held in the

Brožík Hall of the Old Town Hall

.

The auspices of the City of Prague

, over the event organised by 1. Slovanské gymnázium and Language School with the Right to State Examinations, was taken up by Mgr. et Mgr. Antonín Klecanda, Prague City Councillor for Education, Sport and Leisure Activities.

The programme began at 10 a.m. and ended at 11 a.m., leaving plenty of time for teachers and parents to congratulate the students.

To the sound of ceremonial fanfares, the Gymnázium's teaching staff arrived, led by the headmistress, Doc. T. Pergler, Ph.D. After the Czech national anthem, the headmistress took the ceremonial floor. She welcomed those present, highlighted the school's twenty years of existence, its tradition,

continuity and international character. She recalled the school's core philosophy and the fact that the Gymnázium prepares students not only for the maturita, but above all for life. She also highlighted the emerging Akadem Primary School, which from September 2025 will be a gymnázium-type school preparing students for further study.

In her address to the students and parents, she said: Secondary school is a special period – on the border between childhood and adulthood. It is a time when we begin to understand ourselves, the people around us, and the world, when we have the chance to set our first goals and take our first real steps toward achieving them.

We believe the school has given you the most important thing of all – trust in yourself. After the headmistress's ceremonial address, Mgr. David Štěpán, class teacher of 4.A, spoke on behalf of the class teachers present.

After the March of the Student Legions, a piece composed in the revolutionary year of 1848 by Bedřich Smetana, came the actual handing over of school-leaving certificates, in alphabetical order, to the students of 4.A, 4.B and 4.C.

After the Prelude from Te Deum Laudamus by the Baroque composer M. A. Charpentier, the Chair of the Humanities Subject Committee, PhDr. Jaroslav Sojka, Ph.D., gave an address summarising the pedagogical efforts

of the teacher, as well as the supervisor and reviewer of the final theses. The gathering closed with music that was quite literally regal and imperial, performed in the very instrumentation Rudolf II himself might have heard. Time for congratulations, thanks and the presentation of flowers followed.
