Trip to Athens

From 9–13 May, selected students of 1. Slovanské gymnázium, accompanied by Mgr. Antonín Bulka, flew off on a study trip to Athens and its surroundings.

The weather wasn't particularly kind to us, but the programme was really packed. Right after landing in Athens, a guide was waiting for us who spent the whole stay with us. Her name was Anna Plerou, and her expertise was fantastic. She took us to places many people never get to see, and her knowledge of ancient Greek mythology was captivating.

After landing, we set off on a tour around Athens, where we could see remarkable, majestic ancient buildings, the modern Olympic stadium, and the most important Athenian sites in contrast with modern architecture. This was followed by a visit to Greece's largest and most majestic structure, seeming to float above Athens — the Acropolis. A magical place, captivating in its power and grandeur.

On the second day, we set off early in the morning for Greece's original city — Nafplio. This city was built as protection against foreign influences, as evidenced by its numerous acropoleis and the town's complete fortification. In summer weather, one can enjoy the rich seaside promenade, groves of citrus and olive trees — in short, a gorgeous resort town.

Delphi was on the programme for the third day of our stay. An enchanting, magical place at an altitude of just 600 metres. May — a season seemingly made for visiting this unique site. The combination of limestone and marble with rich mythology is sure to captivate almost everyone. The original oracle, where the Pythia herself foretold others' fates in the Temple of Apollo.

On the last day, students had free time. They finally got their long-awaited shopping, many went back to revisit interesting sites again, and some even went to see a nearby island from the local port of Piraeus.
