Microscopy Days at VŠCHT

Students from the science seminar tried their hand at working with a microscope, inoculating cultures and staining specimens at VŠCHT in Prague.

Laboratory equipment in the VŠCHT laboratory

As part of their science seminar, our students took part in the Microscopy Days event at the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague (VŠCHT), where they had the opportunity to explore the world of laboratory work and try out a range of practical activities.

They familiarised themselves with working with a microscope, observed native specimens as well as fixed cultures, and tried their hand at using laboratory equipment and instruments, such as a pipette or a Bunsen burner. Under the expert guidance of VŠCHT students, they also learned other laboratory procedures, such as preparing culture media, inoculating cultures and staining specimens.

All those taking part also took home their own fingerprint specimens as a memento of the event.

The event allowed students to get to know modern laboratory equipment and try out working in a laboratory. This gave them the chance to put some of what they had learned in the seminar into practice.
