As every year, we are diligently and thoroughly preparing for Schola Pragensis, which will take place next week. We're brainstorming, printing, presenting….. In mid-November, we held our first open house of this school year. We're very pleased that so many people interested in our school came. The headmistress, Doc. As part of our biology classes, we visited an exciting escape game. The students split into teams and completed the assigned tasks within a time limit. The tasks thematically matched the material we had been covering on landscape spheres and the global problems affecting humankind. The students learned plenty of useful information and got to try working as a team.
In beautiful, sunny autumn weather, our students visited the Orlík hydroelectric power plant. As at Temelín, students were equipped with helmets. During the tour of the dam reservoir, a talk was given that also mentioned the impact of the 2002 floods. The Chernobyl miniseries became this year's phenomenon, so it's no surprise that students greeted the field trip to the Temelín Nuclear Power Plant with great enthusiasm. After an introductory talk about safety, students were shown an interesting film on nuclear topics. Yesterday, our first-year students visited the DOX Center for Contemporary Art as part of a field trip. This unique multi-purpose space, a former factory, is a center for design, architecture, and lectures. Through an interactive lecture, students of 1.Slovanské gymnázium first learned about the principles of modern architecture and the reconstruction of DOX and other buildings. In the last week of the summer holidays, some of our students have already sat down at their desks to focus intensively on mathematics. This year we opened a preparatory math course to help even out the level of students coming into first year from various elementary schools. A canoeing trip is a very popular outing among students. This year we set off from Český Šternberk and paddled down the Sázava River. Along the way, students visited, among other things, the Gothic castle of Český Šternberk.
As part of Hiking Week, students chose from a range of trips around the Czech Republic. One of the trips was a climb up Sněžka, our highest mountain, along with exploring the Krkonoše (Giant Mountains) and the sights of the Hradec Králové Region.
The last week of June is traditionally marked by trips and exploring corners of our country. The first trip was a hike up Mount Říp. After successfully climbing up to the Rotunda of St. George, students continued to the nearby HistoryPark in Ledčice, where they could try things like archery or find out what it's like to be an archaeologist.
Selected students from the gymnázium visited the chemistry labs of our partner gymnázium in Slaný, which has long cooperated with Czech Television on filming episodes of the show Zázraky přírody (Miracles of Nature). During the demonstration, a modern interactive touchscreen board was used, which our students found very exciting.
