Every student is special to us. Each has their own character traits, hobbies, activities, and work. Some of them, thanks to just how exceptional they are, are also well-known and successful. We're delighted by our students' creativity and their willingness to work on so many school-related activities late into the evening. Late into the evening, students were decorating gingerbread cookies they had baked themselves. The proceeds from the sale went to a good cause. We're working to diversify the trips we offer, so this year, besides our pre-Christmas trip to Vienna, we also took a trip to the beautiful, picturesque little town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Students saw the Gothic town hall building on the Marktplatz, the carved wooden altar in St. James's Basilica, and the Weihnachtsmuseum (Christmas Museum), walked along the medieval town walls, and tasted the local specialty, Schneeballen.
The graduation ball is that lovely social tradition and event tied to finishing secondary school. But it isn't just about the graduates — it's about all of us. As part of art appreciation class, our students visited the largest collection of fine art in the Czech Republic. The aim was to broaden and round out students' overview of 19th- and 20th-century fine art. They got to know characteristic works of the relevant artistic movements (Cubism, Impressionism, Surrealism, and other modern forms of artistic expression). This wasn't a classic guided tour, though. With our students, we don't just cover theory — we try to illustrate that theoretical knowledge with practical examples. Coming up with various IoT solutions, quizzes, and trying out what the IoT lab has to offer students are certainly among those practical examples. We managed to fit an awful lot into a single day. Welcoming students, school leadership, excellent refreshments, a quiz, fun… all of this accompanied a truly special open house. Right at our beautiful Christmas entrance, students welcomed visitors, who were then given a small gift and led by an angel to the refreshments, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed. It's extremely important to keep up with the times, and at our gymnázium we choose lectures on current trends such as Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence, the Internet of Things, and Blockchain. Getting to know a foreign culture, learning about the geography and history of Vienna, the Austrian capital, and building group spirit… That was the goal of the whole trip, and we achieved it. Naturally, with the added bonus of the Advent markets in this beautiful metropolis. Thanks to an experienced guide who spent the whole trip with us, we learned plenty of interesting facts about Vienna already on the bus.

Alongside Schola Pragensis, we're also keeping up with other activities. On Thursday, 28 November, we took part in Latin Day at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University. This event presented Latin as a gateway to many scholarly fields and showed that studying Latin at secondary schools is a traditional discipline that contributes significantly to understanding our history. As part of the project “Support for the Implementation and Development of Socially Responsible Public Procurement,” the much-discussed topic of public procurement was addressed. Libor Rosenzweig took the floor. Students learned about the basics of public procurement, who counts as a public contracting authority, and what regime applies to a public contract.
